Adegas Gran Vinum owns 3.2 hectares of vineyards and works closely with small local winegrowers, cultivating plots of less than one hectare with an average age of 31 years. All follow our strict quality standards for Albariño grape growing, applying techniques and treatments that preserve the richness, aroma, and typical nuances of Albariño wine.
Vineyards in Val do Salnés, Rías Baixas
All the vineyards are located on the slopes and riverbanks of Val do Salnés, benefiting from the Atlantic influence of the Ría de Arousa.
This subzone is dominated by single-varietal Albariño vineyards, typical of Atlantic wines from mild, rainy climates, which give the grapes their freshness and aromatic complexity.
Soil, Traditional Techniques, and Albariño Cultivation
Our vineyards grow in sandy and granitic soils, following traditional methods such as enrichment with cockle and clam shells. The vines are raised off the ground to increase sun exposure and protect them from moisture.
Green pruning and cluster thinning are part of the regular vineyard work, and training is mostly done on the traditional Galician pergola (parral), a hallmark of Rías Baixas viticulture.
Manual Harvesting and Albariño Winemaking
Harvesting is scheduled according to strict ripeness control for each plot, and all grapes are hand-picked, with careful cluster selection.
After a gentle pressing using pneumatic presses to obtain a more aromatic must, the juice is clarified by controlling turbidity.
Then, cold maceration is adjusted depending on the wine label, and fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks.
Finally, the wine is cold stabilized, filtered, and bottled, preserving the natural qualities of the Albariño grape.
